NOTICE OF CHANGES TO BENEFITS FOR RTGS MEMBERS
Following the introduction of the USD option on all medical aid and health insurance packages in October 2018, we are still encouraging members to move across from the RTGS$ funded option to the USD option.
Since October we have been accepting straightforward and immediate transfers from RTGS$ to USD without waiting periods or underwriting. As of April 1, 2019, however, the “open window” will be closed. This means that transfer from RTGS$ to USD schemes will no longer be immediate and members moving to the USD option will be required to complete the transfer request form, giving 30 days’ notice for assessment of application and processing of transfer.
Going forward, members who opt to continue paying subscriptions in RTGS dollars will be restricted to a pay-and-claim basis for all external/foreign treatment. All reimbursements for treatment sought outside Zimbabwe will be made in the local currency via bank transfer at the prevailing exchange rate between the foreign currency and RTGS Dollars, subject to policy terms and conditions.
In the case of evacuations, members will also be required to pay and claim for this service and reimbursement will be in RTGS Dollars.
With regards local treatment, those who have visited health service providers would have noticed that some are either requesting payments in USD whilst others have remained in RTGS Dollars with USD co -payments. We are continually attempting to engage the providers and negotiate their continued acceptance of medical aid cards and direct billing. Unfortunately, the choice of billing mode and currency of any service provider is beyond the influence of Alliance Health. Therefore, should a service provider insist on cash payment, members are advised to pay and claim.
However, for RTGS$ members, the reimbursement of claims paid in USD will be made in RTGS Dollars at the prevailing rate into to their local bank account and subject to policy terms and conditions.
